Does a referral code work on every Starlink plan?
No. Starlink names eight plans, all Residential or Roam. Here's the list as Starlink publishes it, with US list prices from our data file and the date we read them.
Key takeaways
- Starlink says referral credits only issue on eight plans: Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential Max, Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited.
- Business, maritime and aviation plans aren't on that list.
- The free month is one month of the eligible plan you choose, so its value depends on the plan.
- Starlink's terms say eligible plans are communicated at sign-up, so check the order page too.
- Changing plan later can end promotional pricing; it's worth choosing carefully up front.
On this page
No, a Starlink referral code doesn’t work on every plan. Starlink’s help article says referral credits only issue on eight plans: five Residential plans (Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps and Residential Max) and three Roam plans (Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited). Business, maritime and aviation plans aren’t on the list. The free month is one month of whichever eligible plan you choose, so on the plans with US list prices in our data it’s worth $55–$175.
How to read the table
- “On referral list?” comes word for word from Starlink’s help article “How do I use a referral link?”, which we re-read on October 6, 2026.
- “US list price” is the national price starlink.com loads before you enter an address, read on Oct 5, 2026 and stored in one data file on this site. Your address may show a different price, promotional pricing, or a demand surcharge.
- “Not in our price data” means the national price feed we read didn’t give a price for that plan. We don’t fill gaps with guesses.
Plans named in the list
| Plan | On referral list? | US list price | What the free month is worth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential Lite | Yes | Not in our price data | One month of the plan |
| Residential | Yes | Not in our price data | One month of the plan |
| Residential 100 Mbps | Yes | $55/mo (select areas) | $55/mo |
| Residential 200 Mbps | Yes | $85/mo (select areas) | $85/mo |
| Residential Max | Yes | $130/mo | $130/mo |
| Roam 100GB | Yes | $55/mo | $55/mo |
| Roam 300GB | Yes | $80/mo | $80/mo |
| Roam Unlimited | Yes | $175/mo | $175/mo |
Why the value varies
Starlink’s terms say the new customer will receive one free month of service on the eligible service plan of their selection, applied to their second monthly subscription invoice.
So the credit follows your plan. You pay month one in full; month two is credited. A worked example with list prices:
- Roam 100GB: month one $55/mo, month two credited ($55/mo saved), month three $55/mo.
- Roam Unlimited: month one $175/mo, month two credited ($175/mo saved), month three $175/mo.
The kit, any demand surcharge your address carries, and taxes are separate. A referral is a month of service, not money off the hardware.
Residential vs Roam, briefly
Residential plans are for a fixed home address; Roam plans are portable. Which one fits is a choice about how you’ll use Starlink, not about the referral: both families are on the list. If you’re torn, our code vs link explainer and where-to-enter walkthrough cover what changes at checkout. One practical note: referral links usually open either the Residential or the Roam page. Starlink doesn’t publish whether the referral stays attached when you switch between them, so check for “Referral Code Applied” on the order page after choosing.
Plans not named
Starlink’s list is explicit, so anything not on it doesn’t get the referral credit. The main families outside it:
| Plan family | On referral list? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Business plans | No | The terms also say referred subscribers must be “natural persons” |
| Maritime (boats) | No | |
| Aviation | No | |
| Standby Mode | Not a qualifying plan | The terms’ minimum subscription “excludes Standby Mode” |
We cover these in more depth in business, boat and aviation plans and referral codes.
What the terms add
The terms back the list up with a general line: Referred Subscribers may not be permitted to activate on all Starlink service plans. Eligible service plans will be communicated to the Referred Subscriber at the time of sign-up.
In practice that means the order page is the final word for your order. If you’ve opened a referral link and the order page shows “Referral Code Applied” for the plan you picked (a confirmation reported by a third-party walkthrough), you’re set. If it doesn’t, our six-question flowchart helps find out why.
Choosing a plan with a referral in mind
The referral shouldn’t decide your plan. A month of Roam Unlimited is worth more than a month of Roam 100GB, but if you only need 100GB, paying for Unlimited to get a bigger credit loses money from month three onwards.
Things that do matter:
- Plan changes. Starlink says changing your service plan ends promotional pricing. Starlink doesn’t publish how a plan change affects a pending referral credit. If you can, pick the plan you mean to keep.
- Staying subscribed. The referral depends on staying subscribed on a high-speed plan for the minimum period; the terms say Standby Mode doesn’t count toward it. (Timing and eligibility details are a separate subject from this page.)
- Your address. Residential 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps are marked “select areas” in Starlink’s price data. What you’re offered depends on your service address. See what a service address is.
Year-one service cost, with and without the referral
To show what the credit is worth over a year, here are the service fees for twelve months at US list price, with one month credited by a referral and without. Kit, taxes, any demand surcharge and any promotional pricing for your address are not included.
| Plan | 12 months, no referral | 12 months, with referral | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential 100 Mbps | $660 | $605 | $55/mo |
| Residential 200 Mbps | $1,020 | $935 | $85/mo |
| Residential Max | $1,560 | $1,430 | $130/mo |
| Roam 100GB | $660 | $605 | $55/mo |
| Roam 300GB | $960 | $880 | $80/mo |
| Roam Unlimited | $2,100 | $1,925 | $175/mo |
Two things stand out. First, the gap between plans is far bigger than the credit: Roam 300GB costs $960 a year at list price against $660 for Roam 100GB, a difference much larger than any single month. Second, a bigger plan’s bigger credit never pays for the bigger plan. Choose the tier for your usage; the referral then takes one month off whichever you chose.
How we keep the table current
- The plan list comes from one Starlink help article. We re-read it at least every 30 days; the date is at the top of this page and in the sources below.
- Prices come from one data file on this site, re-read from the data starlink.com loads, with a test that fails the build if any price is older than 30 days. Prices on this page are filled from that file, never typed by hand.
- When Starlink renames or adds a plan, older guides (including ours, briefly) can show stale names. If you spot one, tell us and check the changes log.
Checking the list yourself
The plan list can change, and you shouldn’t have to trust us. To check it:
- Go to starlink.com and open the Support or help center section.
- Find the article titled “How do I use a referral link?”.
- Scroll to “Current restrictions”. The first bullet lists the plans referral credits issue on.
- Compare it with the table on this page and the date at the top. If they differ, Starlink’s article wins, and we’d be grateful if you told us.
Then, on the order itself, the order page is the final word for your plan: Starlink’s terms say eligible plans are communicated at sign-up.
Common mistakes
- Picking a bigger plan for a bigger credit. The year-one table above shows why that never pays.
- Assuming “Starlink” means Residential. Referral links can open either Residential or Roam. Make sure the plan on the order page is the one you want before paying.
- Ordering a Business plan with a referral link. Business plans aren’t on the list. See business, boat and aviation plans.
- Counting on Standby Mode. The terms say the qualifying subscription is on a high-speed plan and excludes Standby Mode.
- Reading an old guide. Plan names change. Check the date on any plan list, including ours.
What we don’t know
- Prices for Residential and Residential Lite: not in the national price data we read. Enter your address on starlink.com to see them.
- Whether the order page hides the referral line for a plan that isn’t on the list. Not published.
- How a plan change after ordering affects the referral credit. Not published.
What to do next
Pick the plan that suits how you’ll use Starlink, get a referral link from someone you know, and check it with our link and code checker. Then follow the where-to-enter walkthrough and confirm the referral line before paying.
