Where to enter a Starlink referral code (there’s no box)
If you’ve been hunting for a “referral code” field on starlink.com, stop looking. The code goes in through the link. Here’s exactly what to open, what to check and what to do if it doesn’t show.

The short answer
You don’t enter it. You open it.
Starlink's own steps never ask you to type a code. Every step starts with opening the link, so the code reaches checkout inside the web address Our reading. Open the referral link before you start your order. Then, before paying, check that the order page says “Referral Code Applied”.
Before you start
- The full link, not just the RC- code. Got only a code? Here’s what to do.
- The device and browser you’ll pay on. Start and finish there.
- You’ve never had Starlink. You are not, and have never been, a Starlink subscriber.
- A US service address and a plan to order on starlink.com itself. The kit and plan must be bought directly on starlink.com; stores, unauthorized resellers and private transfers don't count.
Step by step
Starlink’s own version is: open the referral link you were sent, sign up for Residential or Roam on starlink.com, then activate and stay subscribed at least 2 months. The steps below add the checks that tell you the code actually came through.
Get the full link, not just the code
Ask the existing customer to copy their link from Account → Referrals on starlink.com or in the app, and send it as text. A link in a text message or email is perfect. A screenshot of a code, or a code read out over the phone, isn’t: there’s nowhere to type it.
Mistake to avoid: grabbing a “code” from a coupon or deals site. Those aren’t referral codes. Why.
Open it in the browser you’ll order in
Tap or click the link on the device you’ll pay on. Don’t retype the code and don’t go to starlink.com from a search result. If you’ll finish on a laptop, send the link to yourself and open it there.
Starlink app: whether a link opened in a web browser carries over if you finish the order in the Starlink app Not confirmed. Until we can confirm it, finish the order in a web browser.
Check the address bar
The end of the web address should read referral=RC- followed by the code. On a phone, tap the address bar to see the whole address.
No
referral=part? The code didn’t come through. Go back to the message and tap the link again, or paste it into the checker.Look for the referral banner
A strip near the top of starlink.com should say you’re using a referral link. Third-party report The wording can change, so treat it as a good sign, not the final check.
Enter your service address and pick a plan on the same tab
Stay on that tab. Opening a new one, or switching device, risks starting a fresh order without the code. Starlink shows the plans and prices for your address at this point, including any promotional price or demand surcharge.
Find “Referral Code Applied” before paying
The order page shows "Referral Code Applied" before you submit, and a banner at the top of starlink.com says you're using a referral link Third-party report.
This is the check that matters. If it isn’t there, don’t pay yet. Use the fixes below.
Pay, activate, then watch for the confirmation email
You pay month 1 as normal. Starlink emails you once the free month is confirmed, and the bill preview in your account shows month two as free.
The drawings above are our own sketches of where to look, not screenshots. Real, dated screenshots will replace them once we’ve taken them on our own order.
No “Referral Code Applied”? Common causes and fixes
| What happened | Why the code didn’t come through | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You went to starlink.com yourself, or from a search result | No link, no code | Close the tab and open the referral link. |
| The link was shortened, or cut off when copied | The referral=RC-… part was lost | Ask for the full link again. Check it before opening. |
| You opened it on your phone and ordered on a laptop | The second device never saw the code | Open the link on the device you’ll pay on. |
| You finished in the Starlink app | Not confirmed either way | Order in a web browser instead. |
| You only had a code and typed it into the address yourself | Whether a link you assemble by hand from a bare code counts the same as the link the customer copied from their account isn’t confirmed | Ask for the real link from their account. |
| You’ve had Starlink before, on any account | Codes are for new customers only | No code will apply. Order without one. |
Already ordered without the code?
A referral can't be added after the order is placed Third-party report, according to a guide that walks through the program, and Starlink’s own steps put the link first. Starlink’s terms add that the order has to be placed using that customer's link; no other referral method counts. We know that’s disappointing. Don’t cancel and reorder to try again: once you’ve had service, you’re no longer a new customer.
