Plans

Business, boat and aviation plans and referral codes

Starlink's referral plan list is short and specific. Business, maritime and aviation plans aren't on it, and the terms add that referred customers must be individuals.

Key takeaways

  • Starlink's referral credit is listed for eight plans, all Residential or Roam.
  • Business, maritime (boat) and aviation plans aren't on that list.
  • Starlink's terms say referred subscribers must be natural persons, meaning individuals rather than companies.
  • There's also no public business promo code, and no box at checkout to type one into.
  • If a Roam plan genuinely fits your use, it is on the list. Pick the plan for the use, not for the credit.
On this page

Starlink’s referral credit is listed for eight plans, all Residential or Roam: Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential Max, Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited. Business, maritime (boat) and aviation plans aren’t on that list. Starlink’s US terms also say that referred subscribers “must be natural persons”, meaning individuals rather than companies. So a referral code isn’t a route to a discount on a business, boat or aviation order, and we found no public business promo code either.

What the plan list includes

Starlink’s help article “How do I use a referral link?” has a section headed “Current restrictions”. The first line is: “Referral credits will only issue on these plans”, followed by two groups:

  • Residential: Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential Max
  • Roam: Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB, Roam Unlimited

“Only” is the important word. Anything not named doesn’t get the credit.

Two columns. Named on the referral list: Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential Max, Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB, Roam Unlimited. Not named: Business plans, Maritime for boats, Aviation, and Standby Mode, which is not a high-speed plan.

Where business plans sit

Not on the list

Business plans don’t appear in Starlink’s referral plan list at all. If you’re ordering a Business plan, a referral link won’t give you the free month.

The terms point the same way

Starlink’s US Referral Program Terms add two lines that matter for businesses:

  • In the definitions: a Referred Subscriber is an individual who subscribes to Starlink using the Referrer’s Unique Referral Link. Referred Subscribers must be natural persons. A “natural person” is a human being, as opposed to a company or other organization.
  • On the referrer’s side: Participation may be limited to consumer account types.

Put together with the plan list, the program reads as a consumer program: individuals referring individuals, on home and portable plans. That’s our reading of Starlink’s own text.

No business promo code either

Business buyers are used to negotiated pricing and promo codes. For Starlink in the US, we found no public promo code of any kind, and no box at checkout to type one into. Starlink’s help-center text on discounts describes promotional pricing that appears automatically for eligible addresses, not codes. See discount options compared for what exists.

If you’re buying for an organization at volume, the conversation to have is with Starlink’s business sales channels, reached from starlink.com. Be cautious of third parties claiming to offer “business codes” or special pricing for a fee; see how to spot a fake promo code.

Where boat and aviation plans sit

Maritime and aviation plans aren’t on the referral list either. Same answer: no referral credit.

Boat owners sometimes ask whether they can use a Roam plan instead, since Roam is on the list. Roam plans are on the referral list; whether a Roam plan is the right service for use on your boat (for example, where and how it can be used) is a question about Starlink’s plan rules, not about the referral, and we don’t cover it here. Check Starlink’s plan descriptions or ask Starlink support before ordering. Don’t pick a plan that doesn’t fit your use just to get a credit.

Pilots and aircraft owners: aviation plans are outside the referral program, and we’re not aware of any aviation promo code.

Standby Mode

Standby Mode isn’t a plan family like Business or Maritime, but it comes up. Starlink’s terms say the minimum subscription for a referral is on a “high-speed service plan (excludes Standby Mode)”. Pausing to Standby doesn’t count toward that minimum.

What to ask support

If you’re unsure whether your order fits, Starlink support is the right place to ask, through your account or the contact options linked from starlink.com. Useful questions:

  1. “I’m ordering a [plan] for [use]. Is that the right plan for me?”
  2. “Is [plan] eligible for a referral credit?” (The help article’s list should match their answer; if it doesn’t, note the date and tell us.)
  3. “I run a business from home. Which plan does Starlink want me on?”

Ask before you order. A third-party guide to the program says a referral can’t be added after the order is placed.

If a Roam or Residential plan genuinely fits

Some people who first look at a Business plan realize a Residential or Roam plan suits them better: a home office, a single user, modest data needs. If that’s your honest situation, those plans are on the referral list, and the referral works the usual way: open a current customer’s link, order on starlink.com, and check for “Referral Code Applied” before paying. For a new customer that gives one free month of service on the eligible plan you choose, credited to the second bill. On Roam, for example, that’s $55/mo on Roam 100GB up to $175/mo on Roam Unlimited, at US list prices read Oct 5, 2026.

But choose the plan for the use. The referral is one month; the plan is every month after that. And Starlink says changing plan ends any promotional pricing, so switching later has a cost too.

What to check if the list changes

Starlink can change or end the referral program on 30 days’ notice, per its terms. If business, maritime or aviation plans are ever added:

  • the help article’s “Current restrictions” list will change first,
  • we’ll update our plan table and this page, with the date,
  • the change will appear in our changes log.

Until then, treat any claim of a “Starlink business referral code” or “boat promo code” with suspicion, especially if it comes with a fee.

Four common situations, worked through

These are the situations we see questions about most. In each, the plan decision comes first and the referral follows from it, not the other way round.

A sole proprietor working from home

You run a one-person business from your house and want reliable internet for it. The questions to settle are which plan Starlink wants you on for that use, and whether the order is in your own name as an individual. If Starlink’s answer is a Residential plan in your name, that plan is on the referral list, and the referral works the normal way. If the answer is a Business plan, the referral doesn’t apply. Ask Starlink support before ordering, not after; the order can’t be changed to add a referral later, according to a third-party guide.

A company equipping several sites

An organization ordering service for offices, job sites or a fleet is outside the referral program on two counts: Business plans aren’t on the list, and the terms say referred subscribers must be individuals. There’s no business promo code either. The route is Starlink’s business sales channels from starlink.com. Treat any “fleet discount code” offered by a third party as suspect.

A boat owner who also travels by road

You want internet on the water and on land. Maritime plans aren’t on the referral list; Roam plans are. Whether a Roam plan covers your use on the boat is a question for Starlink’s plan descriptions and support. If Roam genuinely fits, the referral applies to it: on Roam 300GB, for example, the free month is worth $80/mo at US list price. If you need a maritime plan, the referral isn’t part of the picture.

An aircraft owner

Aviation plans aren’t on the list, and we found no aviation promo code. There’s nothing to apply.

Questions to settle before you order

Question Why it matters Where to check
Which plan fits how I’ll use the service? Decides everything else, including whether a referral can apply Starlink’s plan pages and support
Is that plan on the referral list? Only eight plans get the credit Starlink’s “How do I use a referral link?” article, or our plan table
Is the order in my own name, as an individual? The terms say referred subscribers must be natural persons Your own account on starlink.com
Have I ever had Starlink before? Returning customers aren’t eligible Your email history; Starlink support
Is the service address in the US? A US referral needs a US service address See what a service address is

If any answer rules the referral out, that’s fine. A referral is one month of service; choosing the wrong plan to get it costs more than it saves.

What we don’t know

  • Whether Starlink has internal programs for business or fleet customers that aren’t published. Possibly; they aren’t public, so we can’t describe them.
  • Whether Starlink will extend referrals beyond consumer plans. Nothing announced that we found.

Questions people ask

Can I use a Starlink referral code on a Business plan?

Business plans aren't on Starlink's referral plan list, which names only Residential and Roam plans. Starlink's terms also say referred subscribers must be natural persons.

Is there a Starlink business promo code?

We found no public US Starlink promo code of any kind, business or consumer, and no box at checkout to type one into.

Does a Starlink referral code work for boats?

Maritime plans aren't on Starlink's referral plan list. Roam plans are on the list, but whether a Roam plan suits use on a boat is a question about Starlink's plan rules, not the referral. Check with Starlink before ordering.

Does a Starlink referral code work on aviation plans?

No. Aviation plans aren't on the referral plan list Starlink publishes.

What if Starlink adds business plans to the referral list later?

Starlink can change the program on 30 days' notice. We re-read the plan list at least every 30 days and log changes on our changes log.

Can I order a Residential plan for my business to get the referral?

Choose the plan that fits how you'll use the service under Starlink's own terms, not the one that gets a referral. Whether a Residential plan suits a business use is a question for Starlink's terms of service and support.
