The short version
- What changed?
- A new Starlink help article says Starlink is "applying a 50% discount to Starlink Residential service plans" for service addresses in an eligible zone in the Vermilion Parish area, with no upfront hardware cost for new Residential customers.
- When did it change?
- The article was created Aug 20, 2026 and last edited Aug 25, 2026 (Starlink's dates). We read it on Oct 6, 2026. No separate start date is given.
- Who is affected?
- Households whose service address is inside the zone on Starlink's map. People elsewhere in Louisiana aren't included unless the map covers them.
- What should you do now?
- Enter your address on starlink.com to see whether the half-price plans appear. Don't search for a "Vermilion code": Starlink says no action is needed and the discount is applied automatically.
- What stays the same?
- There's still no code box at US checkout. The referral free month is still a separate benefit that comes only through a referral link.
What happened
Starlink published a help article for a Vermilion Parish Area Discount on Aug 20, 2026. It gives the reason directly. SpaceX is planning a new spaceport in the Vermilion Parish area of Louisiana, and as it invests there, Starlink is halving the monthly price of Residential plans for “our neighbors in the area”.
It’s the second address-based US discount of 2026. The first was the Memphis area discount in June. A third, for Cameron County, Texas, followed in October.
The terms, as Starlink states them
- Amount: half the standard monthly price, applied automatically.
- Hardware: no upfront hardware cost for new Residential customers.
- Eligibility: based only on the service address, inside the zone on Starlink’s map.
- What to do: nothing. The discount appears on your next bill.
- Duration: as long as the address stays in the zone. Starlink may stop offering it to new customers at any time. If it ends for existing customers, they get at least 6 months’ notice.
- Moving: move out of the zone and future bills return to the standard price.
What it means if you were looking for a discount code
Area discounts are the clearest example of a point this site keeps making. Starlink’s real US discounts don’t use codes. They’re attached to something Starlink can check for itself, such as your address, your plan or a referral link. A “Louisiana Starlink coupon” sold or shared online can’t trigger this discount, because Starlink’s checkout has nowhere to type it.
The article ends by suggesting people share the discount with friends and family nearby. It says those people “may qualify for the same area discount”, and that the referrer’s reward is “redeemable as cash or service credit”. That second part is about the new cash option for referrers. It doesn’t add anything for the person ordering. Starlink doesn’t say whether the area discount and the referral free month combine.
What you can check now
- Enter your exact service address on starlink.com. The prices shown are the ones that apply to that address.
- After ordering, use Billing → Preview invoice in your account. Starlink’s help center says that preview includes any promotion or discount applied.
- If a website claims you need a code for this discount, it’s wrong. Our promo code guide and myths page explain the pattern.
What stays the same
Our where to enter it guide doesn’t change. There’s no code box. A referral code still arrives inside a link. Starlink’s Regional Savings article still names only Mexico, which is separate from these US area discounts.
What we don’t know yet
- Starlink hasn't said whether a new customer in the zone can also receive the referral free month (checked 2026-10-06).
- The eligible zone is published as a map image, not as a list of towns or ZIP codes.
