Roam 50GB becomes Roam 100GB, and per-GB top-ups go away
On Jan 13, 2026, Starlink doubled the high-speed data on its entry Roam plan from 50GB to 100GB at no extra cost in most markets, including the US. It also ended per-GB data purchases on Roam. Roam 100GB is on Starlink's referral plan list.

The short version
- What changed?
- Starlink's help article "Roam 50GB is now Roam 100GB" says that on Jan 13, 2026 Starlink "doubled the amount of high-speed data on Roam 50GB to 100GB, at no additional cost and in most markets". After 100GB, service continues at low speed. Per-GB purchases are no longer available on Roam, except for Ocean Mode.
- When did it change?
- Effective Jan 13, 2026, per the article. The article was created Jan 6, 2026 and last edited Apr 8, 2026. We read it, and the current US Roam prices, on Oct 6, 2026.
- Who is affected?
- US Roam customers and anyone ordering a Roam plan, for an RV, travel or a Mini. A list of other countries kept Roam 50GB. The US isn't on that list.
- What should you do now?
- If you're ordering Roam through a referral link, check the plan name on the order page. It should read Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB or Roam Unlimited, all of which are on Starlink's referral plan list.
- What stays the same?
- Roam 100GB still has a monthly high-speed allowance, followed by unlimited low-speed data. The referral still has to come through the link.
What happened
Starlink’s entry travel plan used to be Roam 50GB. On Jan 13, 2026, Starlink says it doubled the plan’s high-speed data to 100GB “at no additional cost and in most markets”. The help article lists the countries that kept Roam 50GB. The United States isn’t one of them.
The article also describes what happens at the limit. After 100GB of high-speed data, service “automatically continues with unlimited low-speed data” for the rest of the billing period. Starlink notifies you at 80% and 100% of your allowance. To get high speed back, you can upgrade to Roam Unlimited, and that upgrade carries into future billing cycles until you switch back.
The second change: per-GB data purchases are no longer available on Roam plans, except for Ocean Mode. Ocean Mode is billed per GB and is available only with Roam Unlimited.
This post is labelled Background because the change is more than 90 days old.
US Roam plans today
Starlink’s Roam data on Oct 6, 2026 lists three US plans: Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited. Prices changed in May. See our plan price post. Starlink describes Roam 100GB as “approximately 1 week of typical use” at high speed.
What it means for someone using a referral code
Starlink’s help article on using a referral link lists the plans on which “referral credits will only issue”. The Roam plans on that list are Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited. Roam 50GB, the old name, isn’t listed. So the rename matters in a small way. If an older guide tells you to choose “Roam 50GB” with a referral link, the US plan to look for is Roam 100GB.
The referral free month is one month of the eligible plan you choose, applied to your second bill. Our code vs link explainer covers how the referral reaches the Roam page.
What you can check now
- Open the referral link you were given. If it goes to the Residential page and you want Roam, look on the order page for “Referral Code Applied” before paying.
- Confirm the plan name reads Roam 100GB, 300GB or Unlimited.
- If you’ll be offshore, check the coastal rules. Roam 100GB works up to 12 nautical miles from the coast, for limited days. Ocean Mode needs Roam Unlimited.
What stays the same
Roam still works in motion where allowed, and still offers Standby Mode for pausing on owned kits. There’s still no code box. Our FAQ and glossary explain Roam and Standby.
What we don’t know yet
- Starlink hasn't said whether low-speed Roam data counts as a 'high-speed' plan for the referral minimum. The plan itself is high-speed, and Standby Mode is the only exclusion the terms name (checked 2026-10-06).
