Timeline from January to August 2026. January: Residential Max gains a Mini rental and Roam discount. June 15: reported removed. August 10: reported restored. August 12: written into Starlink's Special Offers document.

The short version

What changed?
Starlink's US legal list now includes a document titled "Special Offers", published Aug 12, 2026. It offers Residential Max subscribers a Mini rental with no monthly fee and 50% off eligible Roam plans. BGR had reported on Jun 19, 2026 that this perk ended on Jun 15.
When did it change?
Reported removed Jun 15, 2026 (BGR, Jun 19). Reported back by Aug 10, 2026 (Drive Tesla Canada). Written into Special Offers on Aug 12, 2026. We read all three on Oct 6, 2026.
Who is affected?
Residential Max subscribers in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, per the Special Offers document. Residential 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps subscribers aren't eligible.
What should you do now?
If you're choosing a plan, read the Max offer terms before relying on the Mini. If you already have Max, look for Starlink's "Claim Mini" email. No code is involved at any step.
What stays the same?
The perk is still claimed by email after you subscribe, not with a code at checkout. The referral free month still applies only to the plans Starlink's referral help article lists.

What happened

When Starlink reorganized its US Residential plans in January 2026 (see our post on the renamed plans), the top tier, Residential Max, came with a portable Starlink Mini on a no-cost rental and a discount on Roam plans. On Jun 19, 2026, BGR reported that the free Mini and the discounted Roam access had been removed from Residential Max as of Jun 15. That was during the same weeks Starlink was changing how it charged for home hardware (see the kit rental fee post).

On Aug 10, 2026, Drive Tesla Canada reported the perk was back in the US and Canada. Two days later, on Aug 12, Starlink published a new US legal document called Special Offers. Its one offer is this perk.

What the Special Offers document says

  • Eligibility: Residential Max subscribers only.
  • Where: United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Offer: a Starlink Mini rental with no monthly fee, and 50% off the monthly cost of eligible Roam plans.
  • Conditions: you must stay on Residential Max and keep an active plan on the Mini. Activating Standby Mode on Residential Max, switching to any other plan, or cancelling the Mini’s plan ends the offer. You then have to return the Mini, and you lose the Roam discount from your next billing date.
  • Return: if the Mini isn’t returned within 30 days, your payment method is charged for it.
  • Other terms: rentals may be refurbished, the Mini can’t be transferred, there’s a limit of one per customer, and the offer “may not be combined with other offers”.

Starlink’s help article on the Mini Kit for Travel adds how you claim it. Eligible customers get an email with a “Claim Mini” button and a short survey. The article also says putting the Mini on Standby Mode doesn’t end the offer. That’s a different action from putting the Residential Max line on Standby, which the legal document says does end it.

What it means if you’re comparing codes and offers

This is a perk tied to a plan, so a code can’t unlock it. It shows up as an email after you subscribe to Residential Max. The line “may not be combined with other offers” is worth noticing. Starlink doesn’t say whether the referral free month counts as an “offer” here, and we won’t guess. Residential Max is on the list of plans that Starlink’s referral help article says get the credit.

What you can check now

  1. Read the Special Offers document before choosing Max for the Mini. The conditions on Standby and plan changes are strict.
  2. If you’re on Max and haven’t had a “Claim Mini” email, Starlink’s help article says to contact support.
  3. Our FAQ and glossary explain the plan names used here.

What stays the same

There’s no code box at checkout, and no code tied to this perk. Our promo code guide still stands.

What we don’t know yet

  • Starlink hasn't said why the perk disappeared in June or why it came back (checked 2026-10-06).
  • Starlink hasn't said whether the June removal was nationwide. BGR describes it as affecting select markets.
  • We couldn't confirm the June removal on a Starlink page. That part of this post relies on press reports.
