Starlink’s own help links carry referral codes, some starting RC-DF-
Several Starlink help articles link to the order page with a ?referral= code built into the link. Some of those codes start with RC-DF- rather than RC- and digits. They still ride inside the link and are never typed.

The short version
- What changed?
- On Oct 6, 2026 we read Starlink help articles whose "Order now" or "Click here" links include a ?referral= parameter. Some codes have the form RC- plus digit groups. Others start with RC-DF- and then digit groups. That second form is new to this site's notes.
- When did it change?
- Seen on Oct 6, 2026. The newest article carrying such a link, Cameron County Area Discount, was created Oct 2, 2026. We can't tell when Starlink first added these links.
- Who is affected?
- Anyone reading Starlink's help center, and anyone checking whether a code "looks right". Buyers who already have a friend's referral link aren't affected.
- What should you do now?
- Nothing new. Don't collect codes from Starlink's help pages expecting a free month. Starlink hasn't said what they do. If someone sent you their link, open that link and check the order page before paying.
- What stays the same?
- The code still travels inside the link after ?referral=. There's still no box to type it into. Starlink's terms still say only the referrer's own link counts as a referral.
What we saw
We read a set of Starlink help articles on Oct 6, 2026 while checking this month’s discount and plan changes. Several of them link to starlink.com with a referral code already built into the link:
| Help article | Where the link sits | Code shape |
|---|---|---|
| Cameron County Area Discount (created Oct 2, 2026) | “Click here” to check eligibility | RC-DF- then digit groups |
| Memphis Area Discount (created Jun 26, 2026) | “Click here” to the Residential page | RC-DF- then digit groups |
| Roam 50GB is now Roam 100GB | Two “Order” links | One RC- with digits, one RC-DF- |
| What are the Starlink service plans? | “Order Now” | RC- then digit groups |
We don’t reprint any of the codes. On this site, sample codes use only X’s and zeros.
Why it matters for someone holding a code
It confirms the route. Every one of these links puts the code in the same place, after ?referral= at the end of a starlink.com address. Nothing on those pages asks the reader to type a code. That matches what our where to enter it guide says. The code reaches checkout inside the link.
It widens the format. Until now, this site described a referral code as “RC-” followed by groups of digits. That description came from a third-party example. Starlink’s own links show that some codes also carry letters after RC-, for example the RC-DF- form. Our code checker already accepts letters in those groups. We’ve flagged our own glossary wording for an update, and the change will be logged on our corrections page.
It doesn’t mean these codes give you anything. Starlink’s US Referral Program Terms (published Oct 3, 2026) define the referral as the link or code “generated for a Referrer”. They also say no other referral mechanism qualifies. Starlink doesn’t say whose codes sit in its help links or what they do. We haven’t tested them. We would have to complete an order to do that, and this site never completes one.
What you can check now
- If a friend sent you their link, open it as sent. Our code vs link explainer covers why a bare code isn’t enough.
- On the order page, look for the “Referral Code Applied” line before you pay.
- Be wary of anyone who tells you to use “the code from Starlink’s help page”. Starlink hasn’t described those codes as a discount.
What stays the same
The US checkout still has no code box. The referral benefit for a qualifying new customer is still one free month, applied to the second bill. The glossary entry for “RC code” still holds on the main point: the code is part of the link. Only its description of the format is too narrow.
What we don’t know yet
- Starlink hasn't said what the codes in its own help links are for. They may be tracking or marketing codes (checked 2026-10-06).
- We don't know whether an order placed through one of these links counts as a referral, or whether it carries a free month. We haven't tested it, because this site never completes an order.
- We don't know what the letters DF stand for.
