Starlink Mini installment plan: 12 payments at 0% APR, with strings

Starlink published a US Retail Installment Agreement on Jul 21, 2026 for paying off a Starlink Mini over 12 months at 0% APR. Leaving the plan early makes the rest due at once. Starlink's order data now shows different numbers.

The short version

What changed?
A new US legal document, "Retail Installment Agreement", lets buyers finance one Starlink Mini Kit over 12 monthly payments at 0% APR. It ties the payments to staying subscribed for those 12 months.
When did it change?
Published Jul 21, 2026, per Starlink's legal list. Read by us Oct 6, 2026. On the same day, Starlink's Roam order data showed a Mini installment option with a smaller monthly figure than the agreement.
Who is affected?
US buyers of a Starlink Mini on starlink.com who choose to pay in installments. People paying in full, and Residential home-kit buyers, aren't covered by this document.
What should you do now?
If you're thinking about the installment option, read the termination triggers first. On the order page, check that the monthly amount and total match the agreement you're asked to accept.
What stays the same?
Paying in installments doesn't involve a code. The referral still has to come through the link, and the order still has to be placed on starlink.com.

What happened

Starlink’s US legal page gained a new document on Jul 21, 2026: a Retail Installment Agreement with federal Truth in Lending disclosures. It covers financing one Starlink Mini Kit, the small portable dish. The lender is Space Exploration Technologies Corp.

What the agreement says

Item As written in the agreement
Annual percentage rate 0%
Finance charge $0
Amount financed $192.00
Payments 12 monthly payments of $16.00
First payment The earlier of activation, 7 days after delivery, or 30 days after shipping if no delivery date is available
Late charge None, but missed payments can lead to default
Prepayment Allowed at any time, without penalty

The condition that matters. The plan is based on staying continuously subscribed for 12 months. On a Residential plan, any of the following makes the remaining balance due straight away, a charge the agreement calls a “Kit Termination Fee”: cancelling service, transferring the kit, changing your registered country, changing your service plan, or turning on Standby Mode. On a Roam plan, the same rules apply, except that you may switch between Roam plans or use Standby Mode. Default can lead to collections and credit-bureau reporting.

On Oct 6, 2026 we read the plan and kit data that starlink.com/roam loads, with no address entered. It listed the Mini Kit at $149, and an installment option labelled “$12.41/mo for 12-months”, which comes to about $149 in total. That’s lower than the $192 named in the agreement. We can’t tell from outside which applies to a given order, or whether the agreement will be republished. Read the figures on the order screen and in the agreement you accept before you pay.

What it means if you’re using a referral code

Nothing about installments involves a code. Starlink’s referral help article says the free month applies when you sign up for Residential or Roam on starlink.com through a referral link. Paying for the kit in installments doesn’t change that route. But Starlink hasn’t said how the installment option and the referral credit interact, so we don’t say either way. Our where to enter it guide covers the checkout steps. Our promo code guide explains why “Mini discount codes” aren’t real.

What you can check now

  1. On the order page, compare the monthly amount, the number of payments and the total with the agreement shown at checkout.
  2. If you might move abroad, change plans or pause service within a year, the balance could come due early.
  3. Look for “Referral Code Applied” before paying if you’re ordering through a referral link.

What stays the same

There’s still no code box at checkout, and nothing in the installment agreement mentions codes or coupons. Our FAQ still answers the timing questions about the free month.

What we don’t know yet

  • The agreement names a financed amount of $192 in 12 payments of $16. Starlink's Roam order data on Oct 6, 2026 labelled the option '$12.41/mo for 12-months' and listed the Mini Kit at $149. We don't know which figure applies to a given order, or whether the agreement text has been updated.
  • Starlink hasn't said whether the installment option affects the referral free month (checked 2026-10-06).
