New Mini kits get an automatic Activation Benefit: no code involved

Starlink offers an "Activation Benefit" on new Starlink Mini kits bought on starlink.com in the US and Canada. It's applied automatically at checkout. If you don't activate within 7 days of delivery, Starlink may charge it back.

BackgroundThis change happened more than 90 days before we published this post. It’s here for context, because it still shapes what a US buyer sees today. Check the source date before relying on it.

Three-step diagram: order a new Mini on starlink.com, and the Activation Benefit is applied at checkout automatically. Activate within 7 days of delivery to keep it. If you don't, Starlink may charge the benefit's value.

The short version

What changed?
A Starlink help article titled "What is an Activation Benefit?" says the benefit "will be automatically applied to your order at checkout" for select kits and plans, and is "currently available for new Mini kits purchased on starlink.com in the United States and Canada".
When did it change?
The article was created Mar 13, 2026 and last edited Jul 10, 2026 (Starlink's dates). We read it on Oct 6, 2026. Starlink doesn't say when the benefit first appeared at checkout.
Who is affected?
New customers buying a Starlink Mini on starlink.com in the US or Canada. Kits that were transferred from someone else aren't eligible.
What should you do now?
If you're buying a Mini, look for the Activation Benefit line on the order page. Plan to activate within 7 days of delivery. You don't need a code for this.
What stays the same?
There's still no promo code field at US checkout. The referral free month is still separate, and still arrives only through a link.

What happened

Starlink added a help article on Mar 13, 2026 explaining an Activation Benefit, and last edited it on Jul 10. It describes a reduction Starlink offers “to customers who purchase select kits and service plans”. As of our Oct 6 reading, the only eligible purchase it names is a new Starlink Mini kit bought on starlink.com in the United States or Canada.

This post is labelled Background because the article is more than 90 days old. It’s here because it’s one of the few discounts Starlink describes in its US help center, and because it shows clearly how Starlink applies a discount without a code.

  • The benefit depends on creating a new Starlink account and activating service.
  • It’s applied to your order at checkout automatically.
  • If you get the benefit and don’t activate within 7 days of delivery, Starlink “may charge your approved method of payment for the value of the Activation Benefit”.
  • Transferred kits aren’t eligible.

Starlink also has a separate help article on an Activation Charge. That’s a one-time charge that applies when you buy or activate a new service plan, and it’s refunded if you return the kit within the 30-day window. The names are similar but they’re different things. The benefit reduces what you pay and the charge adds to it. The order summary shows which ones apply to you.

What it means if you’re looking for a Mini discount code

Starlink’s own example of a Mini discount works without anything typed. It’s attached to the purchase itself: a new Mini, from starlink.com, by a new account, activated on time. So a “Starlink Mini promo code” from a coupon site has nothing to attach to. The benefit is already there on the order page if your order qualifies, and absent if it doesn’t.

Two cautions. First, Starlink’s article doesn’t give a dollar value, so we don’t either. Read the line on your order summary. Second, the 7-day activation rule is real money. If the dish sits in its box, Starlink says it may charge back the value of the benefit.

What you can check now

  1. On the order page, look for an Activation Benefit line before paying.
  2. When the Mini arrives, set it up and activate within 7 days.
  3. If you’re also using a referral link, check that “Referral Code Applied” appears. Starlink hasn’t said whether the two combine. Our where to enter it guide shows where to look.

What stays the same

There’s still no code box at US checkout, and Starlink’s discount text still never asks for a promo code. Our promo code guide and myths page still apply.

What we don’t know yet

  • Starlink's article doesn't state the dollar value of the Activation Benefit (checked 2026-10-06).
  • Starlink hasn't said whether the Activation Benefit and the referral free month can apply to the same Mini order.
