Global Roam closes to new customers; existing lines end Aug 17

Starlink stopped selling Global Roam to new customers on Jul 15, 2026 and ended it for existing customers on Aug 17. It points travelers to Global Priority. That plan isn't on Starlink's list of plans that get the referral credit.

The short version

What changed?
A Starlink help article titled "Global Roam Discontinued" says that "Effective July 15, 2026, Global Roam is no longer available to new customers", and that existing Global Roam service was discontinued on Aug 17, 2026.
When did it change?
Closed to new customers Jul 15, 2026. Ended for existing customers Aug 17, 2026. The article was created Jun 29 and last edited Jul 15, 2026. We read it on Oct 6, 2026.
Who is affected?
Travelers who wanted one plan for long stays abroad, and former Global Roam customers. People ordering Residential or a home-country Roam plan aren't affected.
What should you do now?
If you need to travel internationally, compare Roam Unlimited, which allows up to 30 days abroad at a time, with Global Priority. Check whether the plan you pick is on Starlink's referral plan list.
What stays the same?
Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited are still sold in the US. Starlink's referral help article still lists Residential and Roam plans, and the referral still arrives through the link.

What happened

Starlink posted a help notice on Jun 29, 2026 and updated it on Jul 15. Global Roam, its consumer plan for using Starlink across countries without a time limit, closed to new customers on Jul 15, 2026. Existing customers were told to choose a new plan before Aug 17, 2026, when Global Roam was discontinued. The notice says billing stops if no new plan is chosen. Service can be restarted later by picking a plan.

Starlink recommends Global Priority for continued international travel. The notice lists what it offers: global coverage with no time limit abroad, prioritized network access, in-motion use up to 100 mph, up to two terminals per service line, and data in 50 GB or 500 GB blocks.

Where that leaves travelers in the US

The notice also lists the Roam plans that are still sold:

  • Roam Unlimited: service in your home country, plus up to 30 days at a time outside it.
  • Other Roam plans (100GB, 300GB): home country only. For travel rules, the US, Canada and their territories count as one home region.

Travel Registration is needed before using Starlink outside your home country.

What it means if you’re using a referral code

Starlink’s help article “How do I use a referral link?” says referral credits will only issue on a set list of plans. The list, read Oct 6, 2026, names Residential Lite, Residential, Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential Max, Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited. Priority plans aren’t on it, and Global Roam never was.

So the plan Starlink now suggests for long trips abroad, Global Priority, isn’t one the referral free month covers under that list. A traveler who wants the referral benefit would need one of the listed plans, and Roam Unlimited is the listed plan that allows time abroad. We aren’t recommending a plan. We’re pointing out which ones the list covers. Our code vs link explainer and FAQ cover how the referral attaches at checkout.

What you can check now

  1. On starlink.com, open the Roam page from the referral link you were given and read the plan names before choosing.
  2. On the order page, confirm “Referral Code Applied” appears with the plan you picked.
  3. If you’re a former Global Roam customer, check your account. The notice says billing stopped on Aug 17 unless you chose a new plan.

What stays the same

Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited are still listed at starlink.com/roam (read Oct 6, 2026). There’s still no code box, and the referral still has to come through the link. Our glossary explains Roam, Priority and Standby Mode.

What we don’t know yet

  • Starlink hasn't said whether Global Priority will ever be added to the referral plan list (checked 2026-10-06).
  • Starlink hasn't published how many customers were moved off Global Roam.
